Affiliate
Marketing Training
by Chuck Hoskins
When I first started marketing online in about 1997 or so, there was no
affiliate marketing training
- because there were no affiliate programs. If you had a product or products,
you build a web site, and tried to sell them. There weren't really that many
people online back then, but it was really the wild and wooly west. Anything was
fair game.
Things are different now. Thousands of people market products they don't have to
buy, store or ship. Affiliate marketers set up websites to market products that
they don't have any investment in at all. People sell downloadable ebooks,
and physical products and when the buyer makes the purchase from the affiliates
site, the affiliate gets a commission.
I tried so many different affiliate programs I've lost track. Some were
successful, others were bombs. What I have found out is that the techniques of
making sales online are always the same. They can be reproduced. Once I had the
formula for producing an income from one site, I could put up another and do it
again. I gave myself affiliate
marketing training.
My first try seems a little silly now. I did everything wrong, and lost a few
hundred dollars in the process. But I resolved to find something that worked,
and learn the right way to market affiliate programs. After that experience, I
was frustrated and tried several more times without success. A couple of years
ago I got interested in affiliate marketing again. I was talking to an online
friend about it and he started to share the benefits of a full blown affiliate
marketing training program.
So, what did I learn and what can I tell you?
Typically a good affiliate marketing training program will provide:
Some type of forum where the participants can share ideas. The novice can ask
questions, and the experienced can answer. The forum should be a place where
ideas flow freely, and brainstorming occurs without effort. Its a place to look
over past posts and see how others have resolved problems. Where you can see
examples of their websites. A really important use of the forum is to see what
hasn't worked, so you can avoid making the mistakes others have made.
The program has to offer some type of step by step roadmap to follow. If you
don't have a daily program,
you can get off track, and start to concentrate on things that dont make money.
You can be easily swayed by the "program of the day". I see this happen to so
many people. They get involved, they get excited, and by the third day they have
moved on to the next program. This is the reason for 99% of failure in this
business. If you not willing to commit, and I mean really commit to a single
online marketing program for at least 6 months, you shouldn't be in marketing.
Its vitally important that you pick a plan, work daily and diligently on that
plan, learn from the experience of others, and not be lured into the "next
big thing". If I were to give an honest assessment, I would say most of the
marketing plans online have the seeds of success in them. Somebody is making
money with them or they wouldn't be out there being sold. It all boils down to
the commitment factor. Are you willing to learn, and grow and develop your
strategy for at least six months. Kind of a small investment to assure your
future success. Once you have some sales under your belt, and your program is
producing - then you can move on to something else, content in the knowledge
that you can apply the same techniques to the new program, and it will begin to
produce income within a few months also. In fact, the next marketing campaign
you try will work much quicker, because you have learned the steps needed to
make it succeed.
If someone just dumps a bunch of books on you, and doesn't provide any kind of
follow up support to help you
succeed, find another program. Your affiliate program should provide you
with marketing tools, and teach the skills to select keywords, help you with
writing ads, show you how to do search engine optimization. They should at least
provide you with a place to purchase the appropriate tools, they they have
tested and found to be successful.
Good luck in your affiliate business. You will
make money, just stick
with it.
