There are so many Multilevel Marketing, or MLM, opportunities available that it has become increasingly difficult to determine which are legitimate and which are borderline illegal scams. The first thing to understand that a pyramid scheme is on that counts on recruiting others into the pyramid as the sole source of income without offering any real product or service. These types of schemes have left countless people taken for millions of dollars and are so sketchy that law enforcement has made them illegal to operate.

As a counter to law enforcement's involvement, numerous variations of MLM plans have been created to had the fact that they are, indeed, pyramid schemes. If you are careful, there are signs that will tell you if a multilevel marketing opportunity is legitimate and can really (and legally) make you money by selling real products. There are five main questions to ask when considering a MLM business opportunity to tell if it is legit:

1. Is there a real product being offered at a reasonable price?
2. Is there enough information available for you to make an informed decision?
3. Is there training provided for the product?

What is a web directory? A web directory is a collection of links broken down into relevant categories. Think Yahoo and their directory, or the Open Directory Project and even the Google Directory.

At its most basic level, a web directory is a collection of bookmarks made available to the public. In other cases, like Yahoo, it is a professional resource for people actively looking for information.
To get listed in such a directory, you can either get listed for free, which might take a while, or in many cases, pay a one-time fee to have your website reviewed and entered in the directory.

One major exception is Yahoo, which charges a recurring fee for its commercial listings. This is what you don't want, if possible you want to do this for free and you want to do it quickly.

There are two main benefits of being listed in a web directory, increased link-popularity due to a one-way link from a highly respected resource and increased traffic due to being listed in a directory that is searched by many people every day.

In reality though, these benefits are directly related to how popular the directory is itself, and how much money you have paid for your listing. Of course, if the link is for free, there is nothing to worry about.

There are thousands of free website directories on the internet and these are the ones we are going to concentrate on. Directory listings are also used as traffic building opportunities. How this works is that many directories are searchable for their visitors, so that users can look for information. In theory this is great, you can get lifetime traffic for free or just a nominal payment, but you should not expect a sudden deluge of traffic from just one directory listing.

Most directories, apart from the top twenty or so, are usually used for link building and not pure searching. This means that while people may use GoGuides or Yahoo for regular searches, you should expect that the smaller directories are mainly for link popularity.

We will forget about the large directories and concentrate on the small free directories unless you choose to pay for your submissions, I wouldn't advise it at this moment in time, I personally do not pay, and have experienced great success in creating links purely from the free versions.

Many directories offer listings based on an alphabetical order, or a first-come, first-served basis. In both cases, your website has quite a big chance of being lost out in the noise, but that doesn't alter the fact that your link is present and as such will help in your overall search engine ranking.

Because directory search algorithms differ greatly. Some directories, like JoeAnt, base their search on keyword relevancy, which makes it more of an exercise of loading your directory listing with keywords rather than making a good website, whilst others take a more editorial approach by factoring in editor ratings. And still, many directories display sponsored listings first, reinforcing what we already know that mostly, it's your advertising budget that talks, and not necessarily the quality of your website.

In some cases, though very rarely these days, directory inclusions can be rejected due to the poor quality of a website. Maybe the editor considered that your website was not useful enough, meaning it had little or no useful original content. Occasionally there may be moral issues governing your rejection, even though editors are urged to abide by directory guidelines and not personal beliefs. If rejected, you will almost always receive feedback, although you may have to ask for it, on how to improve your website.

In earlier days, quality was a big issue. Today, it is still a major concern for top directories like Yahoo, but this is more to separate the truly atrocious from the rest rather than to separate the best from the rest.

A directory listing is, in most cases, useful only for the link popularity which in turn can greatly increase your search engine placement. In such scenarios, if you can find better deals on authority sites in your niche, then you should go for them. However the directory listings we are concentrating on are free to submit to, and along with added links to your business, can also bring you reasonable traffic.

As always, remember that directory listings form a small part of your overall online marketing strategy. If you don't have the budget for a Yahoo listing, don't worry, focus on submitting your website to the free directories out there, and come back to it when you can afford it. Directory listings are important, in helping you to squeeze every possible drop of search engine placement out of your links and your website.

The only way to get the most from submitting to Web Directories is to make each submission keyword/phrase orientated. Target each of your keywords in turn, obviously starting with the most important and submit at the very least on a weekly basis. This will build links into your business for your chosen keywords and so increase your ranking for those particular keywords. Never submit just a general description, your submission must always be keyword focused.

Actually submitting to web directories is really very easy although a little tedious and should be within the scope of even the newest of online marketers, but as with anything else, the best way to learn is just give it a try, if you have any difficulty, which i doubt, simply persevere until you get the desired results.

To locate the sites you need to submit to simply search web directories and the same for social bookmarking sites.

Social Bookmarking is another excellent method of getting increased back links and driving traffic to your business, Web promotion is all about getting links and driving traffic to your business, you can build as many websites as you wish, but without web promotion you will never earn a cent and be very lucky if you see even a trickle of traffic to your business.

With Social Bookmarking you can tap into an unlimited amount of laser targeted traffic and very high quality backlinks for free, but as with all web promotion it can be very time consuming and decidedly repetitious.

Social bookmarking sites are basically sites that categorize and store bookmark links, links that will lead the searcher to specific websites, very similar to web directories, and considering millions of people search these social bookmarking sites for information it would be foolish not to take full advantage of this excellent traffic generating method.

The idea behind social bookmarking is to post links back to your business from social bookmarking sites. Do You Choose Linear Or Residual, Recurring Income? by Zamri Nanyan

If you were given 2 financial choices in life, which one will you pick? I'm also assuming that you are already making a living comfortably at work or in your business.

Here are your two important choices.

A. You get paid every day on a fix amount of dollar (say USD$100 per day) but you have to work every day to get that amount of money. You stop working and your income stops.

B. You work every day for two years with little to no income at all and sometimes you lose your money, but you are sure that by the end of the third year, you will get more than the person who works every day in the case of option A above. And the money keeps on multiplying regardless if you work in the fourth year and beyond.

Which one will you choose now?

I'm sure many people will choose option B. Who doesn't want an income stream that will keep on multiplying regardless if you work or not? And, believe me that there is a few ways to do it.

But I also believe that some people will simply choose option A as they can't bear the fact that it takes so much time, money and effort to achieve their financial dreams.

If you were to ask me, I would not abandon the idea of making a recurring income. At the same time, I would love to get paid every day for the work that I'm doing. It's just not making sense to choose only option A and leaving option B on the table.

Of course, eventually you want a steady residual, recurring income in your life - the one that will provide you cash regardless if you work or not. At that time, you have the luxury to choose to work or not and even if you choose to work, it is more because you like to do it - not for the money anymore.

Now, the idea of building a recurring income is not new and it is a very exciting concept after all. Let's look at how Burke Hedges explains this great idea in his book "The Parable of The Pipeline" which tells a story of two cousins who bring back water from a river to their village using two methods.

The first cousin, Bruno, will bring a bucket to scoop the water and carry it back to the village. He'll be paid for the water. To make money money, he has to double or triple his effort in carrying the bucket and work extra hour. His income will be limited by his strength and time.

The other cousin, Pablo, is quietly making a plan. He is building a pipeline to supply water from the river to the village. It takes time, money and effort to build the pipeline initially. As you can guess, he is not paid a single red cent for this effort. He can see his cousin making a fortune but he knows it will be to his advantage when his work is done in the future.

Finally, his pipeline is complete. The water is supplied directly into the village cistern using the pipe Pablo created. His cousin, Bruno, although making good money, is aching all over after long hour of carrying bucket full of water.

As for Pablo, his work is done and he'll get paid for as long as his pipeline is working (while he is lazying around).

I'm not going to build a real water pipeline for sure but you can model this concept to create your own recurring income.

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Write a best-selling book for a royalty income. Then write some more books in your spare time. You can also write an ebook and sell it online.

2. Buy a property and rent it out. Then, buy a few more to double or triple your income.

3. Deposit your money in bank or invest in stocks. Compounding effect will double your money in 7 years for a yearly 10% interest of your savings. Stock appreciation will increase your money as well.

4. Create a product that requires a license from you. For example, a piece of software can be charged annually for the license. Big corporations are doing it but the small players are seeing this opportunity too.

5. Build a network marketing business. You and your team will build a group of distributors and the bigger your team is, the more money you will get. But, do not confuse network marketing with a get-rich-quick or pyramid scheme.

So, back to the original question, "if you were given 2 financial choices in life, which one will you pick?"

The first couple of months that I was in Internet Marketing I promoted Success University only, at present I earn a respectable four digit residual Income from Success University, and with the money I make I reinvest it in an other affiliate programs one of them is the very popular and very profitable Plug in profits program (PIPS). Allot of big earners in online affiliate marketing make 5 digits monthly incomes you just have to want it enough and decide to put in the time and effort.

Embarking on an Internet marketing campaign doesn't have to be difficult, tricky, or complicated. Here are a few simple ways (twenty in fact) that you can easily implement to get tons of traffic to your site right now!

1) Write articles: believe it or not this is an incredible tool for driving traffic. Well-written, relevant articles can net quite a bit of activity to your web site. Don't forget to add your URL in your byline. Articles should be 500 to 2,000 words in length. You can send articles to sites like: Article City, Go Articles, Submit Your Articles and Ezine Articles.

2) Social bookmark *everything* - and I do mean everything - you can bookmark each page of your site and each blog entry you post. While this might seem tedious, it's worth it. You'll see a strong increase in traffic if you social bookmark each page on your site and each of your blog entries.

3) List yourself in the best directories – you'll have to pay for this but since most people don't do this (since everyone's looking for a freebie) you could really enhance your traffic by getting a listing: dir dot yahoo dot com, business dot org, botw dot org.

4) Get yourself listed at: DMOZ dot org – it's not easy to get listed there, but worth the effort.

5) Review: if you can review hot new products or books within your market, head on over to Amazon and start positioning yourself as an expert. In order to do this effectively you'll want to create an Amazon profile and make sure and sign each review with a reference to your URL (your web site). You can also go to Epinions and Revoo to review products as well.

6) Offer a freebie on Craig's List: you'll be amazed at how much traffic you get from a single Craig's List ad. They key here is to send people to a page on your site and make sure they have to sign up for something (like your email newsletter) before they can grab their freebie. That way you're not just getting traffic, you're also building your list.

7) Create a "recommended by" list on your Delicious page – you can do this by logging on and creating an account at there and then tagging articles, blogs and other content you think is important to your readership. Then offer this page as a resource site. You can add a link to this page in your email signature line or on your web site.

8) And speaking of your email signature line…do you have one? If you don't, create one. Believe it or not, people do follow these links. You'll be amazed how many folks read email signature lines. I have one and change it several times a year, depending on what we're doing or promoting or what books I have coming out.

9) Lend a helping hand: you can be an answer person at Yahoo Answers – you don't have to spend hours on there, but maybe a few minutes a week. Make sure and include a link back to your site following your answers.

10) Set up a social networking site using Facebook, Linkedin, or Squidoo. It's free and easy to do, just don't forget the all-important link back to your site!

11) Make sure your blog has an RSS feed so if you capture a reader you don't lose them if they forget to bookmark your site or blog.

12) Join relevant groups at Yahoo groups. You'll find everything from groups on growing your small business, writing books, finding your passion, even underwater basket weaving. I dare you to find one that isn't right for what you're promoting. When you do find the right group, join and participate as you can!

13) Podcasting is another great way to drive traffic. Start a podcast by going to Audio Acrobat. There are other programs you can use, but I love Audio Acrobat. You can record the podcast over the phone quickly and easily and then hit the "send" button on your computer once it's recorded and the system will syndicate it to 27 podcast directories including iTunes. It's a great way to let people know about you and your web site!

14) Start a blog and then once you do, start commenting on other people's blogs, linking to them from your site or adding them to your blogroll.

15) Inbound links: don't squander your time (or a perfectly good link) on smaller low-traffic sites. Instead spend your time going after high traffic, high quality sites. Good sites should have a PR (page ranking) of 4-6 depending on the market. You can find out what a site's page ranking is by downloading the Google toolbar which comes with a PR feature built in.

16) Start an email newsletter: while it may not seem like a newsletter that you email can drive traffic to your site you'd be surprised at the effectiveness of this type of promotion. If your newsletter (like your articles) is interesting and relevant to your audience, you'll find that it has a huge pass-through factor, meaning that it is passed from one email subscriber to another. Also, if you have an email newsletter you should never, ever go to a single event without your handy signup sheet. Yes, you can even use offline events to drive traffic to your web site.

17) And speaking of offline efforts: if you're ever quoted in a magazine or other publication, make sure and mention your URL as it's appropriate to the topic. Don't be too pushy about this, but do not forget to tell folks you have a web site that may be a great resource for the topic of your interview

18) If you have products to sell, why not get a store on eBay? This site gets a tremendous amount of traffic and on your sales page you're allowed to list your URL. It's another great way to get an inbound link and a way for people to find you.

19) Load a video on YouTube and 57 other video sites (the rest listed on my Red Hot Internet Publicity blog).

20) While this isn't a tip per se, it's still important. If you're going to go through all the trouble of getting traffic to your site, make sure your site is converting this traffic into something. Get folks to sign up for something, your newsletter, the RSS feed on your blog. Whatever it is, getting their email address will help you remarket to them when the time is right. Studies show that visitors landing on a site often don't buy the first time. That's ok! You want to get them into your marketing funnel so you can market to them again and again – not in a way that's obtrusive, offensive or downright annoying, but in a way that is helping them with their own mission.

An example of this might be an email newsletter. A helpful, informative newsletter is a fantastic funnel. A blog is another great way to keep people in your marketing loop without bombarding them with "please buy my stuff" email messages. Also, make sure you know what your traffic numbers are before you launch into any Internet marketing campaign. By traffic numbers I mean how many people are visiting your site. You want to know this so you can gauge a before and after view of your marketing efforts.
